REIWA has welcomed the State Government’s
labour recruitment drive, with CEO Cath Hart saying it was good for the State and the health of the property market.
“Anyone who has a business will tell you it is incredibly hard to find staff at the moment,” Ms Hart said.
“The government is attempting to attract a range of much-needed workers from the UK to help fill almost 31,000 job vacancies across the State.
“It is particularly pleasing to see tradies in the mix. That should help the building industry get properties out of the ground quicker and address one aspect of the housing shortage.”
Ms Hart said population growth would also support the continued resilience of the WA property market.
“While there have been howls of ‘where will they live’, they won’t all come at once,” she said.
“And while most migrants tend to rent first before buying or building, the Chinese government’s decision to send university students back to on-campus study will have a more immediate impact on the rental market than this program.
“Steady,
ongoing population growth will generate ongoing demand for housing and help maintain the stability of the property market.
“And it won’t just be Perth that benefits, some migrants will move to the regions, which will support those property markets as well.”
