Hayden Groves is well known and respected across the industry and his commitment to real estate is beyond doubt.

His Fremantle-based agency dethridgeGROVES has collected a host of industry awards including REIWA’s Marketing and Communications Award and Rate My Agent Agency of the Year for the past three years in a row.

Not only is he a successful agent and business owner, he also spent a decade on the REIWA Council, serving as President for three years, and was appointed President of the Real Estate Institute of Australia in 2021.

Outside of selling homes, managing an agency, juggling his industry and family commitments, Hayden loves cycling, mountain biking, SUP boarding and drinking fine wine.

So, who is Hayden Groves, what are his proudest moments, and how did his real estate journey begin?

How did you get into real estate?

I was working 12-hour days managing the Dome in Fremantle and many of my best customers were local real estate agents. I liked the idea of drinking coffee rather than making it! At the same time, I was looking to sell my family home and through that process was inspired to make the move into real estate sales.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

The trust the community give you to sell what is their most prized asset. It is a tremendous privilege, and that honour has never left me. Helping people realise their property dreams is the best part of the job.

What is the most challenging part of your job?

Managing people’s expectations is the toughest part of the role. Juggling the responsibilities of running a business, managing staff, being the licensee and my industry involvement can be taxing at times. Time management can be a real challenge especially when you have a family.

What are you most proud of achieving in your role?

Developing the people that work for you is very satisfying. Giving them an opportunity to be their best and help them realise their potential is really rewarding. Having served on the REIWA Council, REEFWA Committee and REIA Board, and having held the role of President in all three is something I’ve been proud to achieve.

We know WA market conditions are strong, what have the last 12 months been like for you on the ground?

With listing stock is still tight, sales volumes are constrained while outcomes remain positive. Fremantle has been one of those regions that has benefitted from recent gains in property values and dG has equally benefitted. The rental market is tight too and tenants have found it so difficult to secure a home.

What is your best advice for sellers?

Make the effort to present your home so it comes to market looking its very best. Listen to your preferred REIWA member sales agent regarding market value and marketing strategies and be prepared to meet the market.
