Set on a 509sqm block, this rare Federation brick home (circa 1912) offers timeless character and endless potential to renovate, extend, or simply enjoy as is.

Step from the charming front porch with decorative lacework into a home that instantly welcomes you with its high ceilings and polished floorboards. At the front, the master bedroom features a built-in fireplace, split-system air conditioning and period charm, while the second bedroom also includes air conditioning and a built-in robe. The third bedroom, complete with built-in shelving, is conveniently located opposite the bathroom.

The renovated bathroom is beautifully styled in keeping with the home’s heritage, showcasing tessellated floor tiles, a timber vanity, walk-in shower and even the original fireplace nook.

At the centre of the home, the kitchen and living/dining area form a warm and functional hub. A freestanding wood stove adds character and comfort, while the kitchen features a gas cooktop, rangehood, dishwasher, central island bench and generous storage with a freestanding pantry. Large windows frame leafy views to the shaded, paved backyard with a covered deck area.

A neat and functional laundry with a second toilet adds everyday practicality. This area also links to an alternative entry point, which could be cleverly repurposed as a study nook or small home office.

Another unique feature is the detached utility room/workshop at the rear. With its own bathroom and patio area, it’s a versatile space that could serve as a workshop, studio, hobby room or even be converted into a self-contained granny flat.

Maylands overview

Maylands is a riverside inner-city suburb approximately 4.5 kilometres northeast of Perth, serviced by the Midland railway line on the northern bank of the Swan River. In 1896 the name "Maylands" was first used to identify the area, appearing on a poster advertising a land auction. However the exact reason how the area got its name is something of a mystery.

The suburb was once a source of clay for brick and tile making at Maylands Brickworks, and the pits from these activities are now part of a golf course and residential area. It was home to Perth's main airport until the early 1960s, and the facilities were converted to a training area for the Western Australian Police Service.

Life in Maylands

Maylands is known as a cultural and creative hub as it is home to The West Australian Ballet Centre and home to the WA Youth Jazz Orchestra. In recent years, new bars, cafés and restaurants, along with gourmet food and retail outlets have all contributed to an ongoing transformation of the town centre into a lively, diverse and inclusive destination. There are numerous shopping centres in the area, 15 parks and reserves and two primary schools.
