Federation bones, magazine-worthy glow up

1910 pedigree with some serious 2025 energy.

A Federation classic doesn’t have to be stuck in time, and this home proves it. It’s a 1910 beauty that’s been renovated, refreshed, modernised, and polished with zero stuffiness. Three bedrooms, two bathrooms, green title freedom, and a front facade that stops folk in their tracks. We challenge you to walk through the front door without a little gasp of delight! Tuck pointing, leadlights, ornate ceilings, proper polished boards, fireplaces - all the classics are here. But the vibe has been made fresh, flexible, and still a little fancy. Swing open the secure gate, roll up to the bullnose verandah, and take in that timber-decked welcome. Inside, high ceilings and sash windows mean the place is flooded with light while the floorplan lets you live how you want. There’s a formal lounge with a show-off fireplace, plus a second zone that’s whatever you need: music room, study, cocktail/dining den, kid chaos containment. This is a space that will work with you. And oh, the kitchen. Pure huge Hamptons cool with a modern, magazine-worthy edge. Stone tops, stainless steel, walk-in pantry, and enough storage to hide a year’s worth of Uber Eats menus and all your snazzy appliances to boot. Whip up breakfast for two or a grazing table for twenty while friends hover, glasses in hand. Wander out to the decked alfresco, where landscaped gardens set a pretty scene for whatever soiree you have planned. And when it’s You time, upstairs boasts a main suite that is straight-up sanctuary - ensuite, dressing/nursery/study, and city skyline glimpses. Bliss.

Maylands overview

Maylands is a riverside inner-city suburb approximately 4.5 kilometres northeast of Perth, serviced by the Midland railway line on the northern bank of the Swan River. In 1896 the name "Maylands" was first used to identify the area, appearing on a poster advertising a land auction. However the exact reason how the area got its name is something of a mystery.

The suburb was once a source of clay for brick and tile making at Maylands Brickworks, and the pits from these activities are now part of a golf course and residential area. It was home to Perth's main airport until the early 1960s, and the facilities were converted to a training area for the Western Australian Police Service.

Life in Maylands

Maylands is known as a cultural and creative hub as it is home to The West Australian Ballet Centre and home to the WA Youth Jazz Orchestra. In recent years, new bars, cafés and restaurants, along with gourmet food and retail outlets have all contributed to an ongoing transformation of the town centre into a lively, diverse and inclusive destination. There are numerous shopping centres in the area, 15 parks and reserves and two primary schools.
